Our January meeting of the Silver Social Club at The Trailside Event Center was, bittersweetly, our final dance at that location. While we know this change may feel sad for some, we want to reassure you that the fun — and the fellowship — is far from over.
Beginning March, our monthly Silver Social Club gatherings will take place at the award-winning Inn at Birch Wilds, located at 3236 W. Lizard Creek Road, Lehighton, PA. This new setting allows seniors to enjoy a variety of amenities, including playing billiards, swimming in our very large heated indoor pool, enjoying card or board games, relaxing with a good book in the library, and spending time together in a welcoming, comfortable environment.
This decision was not an easy one. In today’s economic climate, securing continued grant funding or additional fundraising support has become increasingly difficult. In order to ensure the Silver Social Club could continue in some form, a change was necessary. We truly understand that saying goodbye to the dance was disappointing, and we kept it going for as long as possible. If future funding becomes available, we would be thrilled to bring the dances back. Until then, this transition allows the program to move forward rather than come to an end.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Carbon County Community Foundation for the original grant that made this wonderful program possible. We are also deeply grateful to the Lehighton Recreation Center, the generous owners of The Trailside Event Center, our DJ, Ed Gallagher, and to Walmart and Giant for their gift card donations, which helped us provide food for our guests.
This year, we proudly celebrated three years of bringing seniors together, and our hope is to continue fostering connection, laughter, and community for many years to come. We look forward to welcoming you to this next chapter of the Silver Social Club.
